👘 [Japanese Week] 📺 Sherlock: Untold Stories (シャーロック)

We all I sincerely hope have read at least one book with the famous British detective as the protagonist. Then there were tons of movies and Tv series adaptations with real actors (and even a mouse!). I always liked detective stories and the character of Sherlock Holmes so when I discovered the Japanese Tv series I just had to watch it!

Tokyo, nowadays
Shishio Homare officially is a criminal consultant for the Tokyo Metropolitan Police while the reality is, he does all the deduction work and detective Eto takes the credits for it.
Homare is often helped by Leo, a young boy who's in charge to follow the people Homare is suspicious of but he soon finds in former psychiatrist Junichi Wakamiya the perfect sidekick!
As the duo starts working together, Homare will also move in with Dr. Wakamiya which, at first, isn't thrilled about it but they'll eventually find their (weird) balance, filled with sarcastic arguments.
Homare proves his different way of thinking and perceiving things by solving interesting and fascinating cases while Moriya, a mysterious figure, watches and wait for the perfect time to take the skillful detective by surprise...

My Opinion👍👎
I was so happy to find that some of the characteristics that made Sherlock Holmes famous were portrayed in this Japanese adaptation as well, first and foremost him playing the violin!
It was also really interesting how such a character would fit in the Japanese society contest and I think it made a really nice contrast with the overall seriousness of it.

Detective Eto and his partner detective Kogure are, respectively, the fool and the rule follower of the situations, while I was enthralled by the secretive figure of Leo, this young boy who always manages to succeed in any task Homare assigns to him.

The first couple of episodes are really captivating and one of the main reasons I kept on watching was Homare and Wakamiya's discussions and interactions, they are HILARIOUS together!!
Dean Fujioka is a fabulous Sherlock, full of charms and witty. It's obvious that the character has been studied scrupulously: from the dialogues to the hair and style, you can feel the original Sherlock Holmes' vibes!
Personally, from episode 6 the hype decreased a bit but I'm glad I kept watching as the last episodes are full of surprises and revelations.

My rating: 4/5
