Who Wore It Best - 2014 Cannes Film Festival edition

The 67th edition of Cannes Film Festival came and gone pretty quickly this year (at least for me)...Anyway, we had enough time to see lots of photocalls and red carpet runways, BUT not all the dresses and gowns that have been showed were unfamiliar to us...

Infact, some of the celebrities wore dresses that were worn in other occasions, earlier this year. Let's have a look!
Naomie Harris @ NAAP Image Awards (02/2014)                  Clotilde Courau @ "The Search" premiere
                                                                 both the actresses wore Valentino

Novel Of The Week - Sleeping Beauty's Dream by Luca Centi

Unfortunately this novel has been published only in Italian (since the writer is from Italy)... I say "unfortutately" because The Sleeping Beauty's Dream by Luca Centi is really a great novel and it's a pity that you can enjoy it only if you know the language.

Here's the story:

Monica Bellucci vs Bianca Balti

Like the "Angelina versus Emma" post, here another tough comparison!
On the left side we have probably the last Italian diva Monica Bellucci, wearing a dark grey lace dress by
Dolce&Gabbana @ 60th San Sebastian Film Festival,Spain back in 2012.
On the other side one of the most famous Italian supermodel Bianca Balti, wearing the same dress, the same year BUT
in a different occasion: the amfAR's Cinema Against AIDS during the 65th Cannes Film Festival.

Both Italian, both stunning in that dress, both CURRENTLY spoke models for Dolce&Gabbana!
I leave the final decision to you people!

Movie Review: Tracks

Mega Sized Movie Poster Image for Tracks

Tracks (2014) by John Curran. With Mia WasikowskaAdam Driver and Roly Mintuma

Based on Robyn Davidson's best seller novel "Tracks" and on Rick Smolan for National Geographic's photo reportage in 1977.

Australia, 1975

Robyn Davidson (a lonely young girl) arrives in Alice Spring with one aim: to cross the Australian desert from Alice Springs to the Indian Ocean with the only help of 4 camels. It's trek of almost 2700 km.

She prepares herself for it, first by working in a camel farm for a very grumpy and dishonest man, after for a cameleer (who will become a sort of mentor), learnig how to train and tame the camels she'd use for the desert crossing.

She hasn't a mystical or philosophical reason to explaine why she wants to do this, simply is convinced that "anyone can do anything". After two years of preparations and organization, Robyn still need a few more equipments, so writes to "National  Geographic" asking for a sponsorship in exchange for the exclusive story and obtains it.
The deal with "National Geographic" is that, during the crossing, every 5/6 weeks Rick Smolan (the photographer) will meet her during the travel and take some pictures. Even if Robyn isn't completely OK with it, she agrees and so her journey can start!

It'll take almost 7 months and Robyn will face every kind of problem: walking thirsty under the scorching sun, losing (and eventually finding back) the compass, having hallucinations, but also wild camels and and sand storms!
Sometimes Robyn will have second thoughts and will want to quit, but she'll find the strength to carry on.

You may think that, since the protagonist is essentially one, this movie will be full of silent scenes and will be boring, but IT'S NOT! It's a wonderfull movie and I really enjoyed it! Mia Wasikowska is very talented and the movie is worth to be seen only for the amazing views of Australian's landscapes!

p.s = during the end credits will be showed the photos of the real Robyn Davindson and Rick Smolan....well, he and Adam Driver looks "switched at birth"!!!

Zooey Deschanel vs Taylor Swift

Let's start saying that I'm deeply deeply in love with this white & polka dots dress by To Tommy, From Zooey Collection

On one side we have actress Zooey Deschanel wearing her creation on April 14th, during the launch of the collection in New York.
On the other side, singer Taylor Swift wore the same dress, in the same city but in a different month (May, 3rd) on her way to the gym....because who doesn't dress up like that to go to the gym?!

Best&Worst Moms in Movies

Today (here in Italy) is Mother's Day! We are all well aware of the sacrifice our mothers DAILY do for us....they are always with us, cheering for our successes and helping us whie we're going trough bad times and experiences.

So I thought it would be fun to make a list of best and worst mothers in movies...clumsy, loud, lazy or overprotective, we can aways count on them! Here's my list of good and bad, let me know what you think! Maybe you can take inspiration for a "family night" watching movie and spending some time with your mothers!

1 Paz Vega in "Spanglish" - Moves from Mexico to US (she doesn't even speak English)  for the chance of a better life for her daughter
Geraldine Somerville in "Harry Potter" saga - Thaks to her love and sacrifice, Harry Potter can survive 7 books and 8 movies!
3 Sarah Jessica Parker in "I Don't Know How She Does It" - working mom, enough said!
4 Diane  Keaton in "Because I Said So" - Overprotective to her younger daughter's love life
5 Kristin Scott Thomas in "The Horse Whisperer" - She's sometimes too hard on her daughter, but that helped her going through her injury
6 Susan Sarandon in "Anywhere But Here" - She's more a friend than a mom
Brenda Blethyn in "Pride & Prejudice - TOO apprehensive and suffocating, all she can think of is a good marriage for her daugthers
8 Rachel Weisz in "Lovely Bones" - After her daughter's murder, she has a break down and leaves her family, but eventually came back
9  Meryl Streep in "Kramer versus Kramer" - She doesn't love her husband anymore, but leaves her son too!
10 Mo'Nique in "Precious" - Not only let her partner to physically abuse her daughter, she attacks her verbally and physically TOO!

---- best moms ever!
---- they're trying their best
---- they screw things up, but we love them anyway....
---- worst moms ever!

Get Her Look: Kate Middleton' Style

I know this is not an "original" tip on how to copy Duchess of Cambridge's look (since I've seen a lot of blog posts linking to this dress) but Kate is known both for her style and her recycling ability so why not remind you that on there's a dress similar to Kate's Erdem navy blue lace dress?

MET Gala 2014 : My personal Best Dressed

Yesterday evening took place the annual event @ the The Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. Tons of celebrities walked down one of all Gala events' most famous red carpet.
This year's theme was White Tie and Decorations (and that was specifically for men), meanwhile women's dress code was jewel-tone dresses and gowns...
The whole evening was in honor of Charles Jamesfashion designer remembered as America's first couturier.

So let's have a look on who embraced it my opinion, of course!

Maggie Gyllenhaal in Valentino                           Kate Mara in  Valentino
Reese Witherspoon in Stella McCartney               Hayden  Panettiere in Dennis Basso
Claire Danes in Oscar de la Renta                             Taylor Swift in Oscar de la Renta
Allison Williams in Oscar de la Renta               Katie Holmes in Marchesa
Karolina Kurkova in Marchesa                              Dita von Teese in Zac Posen

Marion Cotillard in Christian Dior Couture                Sarah Paulson in Prada
Ashley Olsen in vintage Gianfranco Ferrè            Michelle Monagahan in Altuzarra

So this are my personal favourites! What do you think??

Monthly Travel Wish List

                        Lisbon, Portugal

My first travel ever was, according to my parents (I can't remember it, I was less than 2 years old), in Vilamoura, Portugal. I've done some research and it's in south Portugal and from the family photos I've seen it seems to be a pretty nice and fun place....

I'm writing all of this just to say that I've been in Portugal before, but I want to visit a bit more and this time I also want to remember it!

Lisbon, Portugal's capital, overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and is famous for its original and colorful architectural works. Quite a few people who have been there, described it as a "melancholy, dreamy but serene and calm city".
So what to do while you're there? Other than going to the beach, which is rather obvious!
