Cure it with Movies: Dads

Some time ago, I read a quote and has been stuck in my mind ever since: "It's easy to a be a father, what's really difficult is being a dad".
Usually, in movies, the father's figure is marginal and when it's not, he's the character that forbids to his daughter(s) or son(s) to date someone he doesn't think is appropriate, maybe he's way too overprotective or harsh.

Well in this "Cure it with Movies" I'll give you some alternative father's models: understanding, good and sometimes a little gullible, but always ready to help their children and (eventually) THEY are the ones who fix the situations.
  • For those fathers who worry too much and are overprotective
A Goofy Movie (1995) - binding father/son roadtrip turns to be a non stop of incredible ang funny circumstance
Finding Nemo (2003) - Marlin literally cross the entire ocean to find his son!
  • For those fathers who don't know what to do

Solo un Padre (Just a Father - Italian Movie) (2008) - after his (ex?) wife died giving birth to their daughter, Carlo has to deal with the sinlge parent everyday life.
The Boys Are Back (2009) - after his second wife died, Joe Warr has to grow not only his sons, but also try to create a bond with the older one, born from Joe's first marriage.
  • For those fathers who...don't know that are fathers!
The Game Plan (2007) - what do you do when you are a famous football player and during the most important matches of your career your daughter (that you never knew existed) shows up?
Kids Are All Right (2010) - a lesbian couple's kids want to find out who's their biological father
Delivery Man (2013) - David donated his sperm a long time ago. It was used 533 times and now 142 of them file a lawsuit to reveal his identity. He'll find a few and help them out, without saying who he really is.
  • For those fathers who would to anything for their children
Jhon Q (2002) - John's insurance won't cover his son's heart transplant, so in a moment of desperation he takes the hospital's emergency room hostage until the doctors agree to perform the operation
Taken (2008) - Basically, he destroys half Paris to find his kidnapped daughter. Famous is the speech " I have no money, but what I DO HAVE is some special skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. You let my daughter go and it stops here. If you don't I'll look for you, I will find you and I will kill you"

There's not a Global Father's Day date: in Italy is on March, 19th while in UK (as well as many other countries) was last Sunday and in Haiti is today, so any day could be used (and should be spent) thanking the most important man in our lives!

Today's Obessesion: Dreaming of Wimbledon

Immagine correlataWimbledon is the oldest tennis tournament and one of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments (and probably the most famous!) along with the Australian Open, Roland Garros (French Open) and US Open.

It's my favourite tournament because it takes place during summertime so I can watch every match that I want without having hundreds of things to do and I like that there's a dress fact every player has to wear a white outifit. And because it's the only of the Grand Slam's Four that is played on grass.

Since the 2014 edition is going to start tomorrow (Monday 23rd), here's my list of movie, books and everything that's Wimbledon related!

Movie(s) & Book(s):
- "Wimbledon" (2004) directed by Richard Loncraine. With Paul BettanyKirsten Dunst, Sam Neill Jon Favreau and James McAvoy
- After Wimbledon by Jennifer Gilby Roberts  (novel)
- The Tennis Party by Madeleine Wickham (novel)
Tennis by John McPhee
Wimbledon: The Official History of The Championships by John Barrett
The tournament has been used as synonymous of elegance and great performances, in fact the main sponsor partners are Rolex (the Official Watch at Wimbledon), Ralph Lauren (wears all Wimbledon on-court officials), Slazenger (official sponsor since 1902, provides with 52 000 tennis balls!) and Evian ( the Official Water of The Championships).

Wimbledon in Pop Culture

Famous are the Charles Schulz' stories on Snoopy going play tennis at  Wimbledon!

Inspired nail arts

and last but not least, fashion!
Brands like Lacoste and Fred Perry base on tennis their entire collections and could not be otherwise since their names are from Frederick John Perry & Jean-René Lacosterespectively British and French famous tennis players.

                                                               Cruciani tennis racket bracelets

Hope you like this little "brainstorming" and if you will watch the tournament, I wish to all of you a Happy Wimbledon!!

Taylor Schilling vs Kerry Washington

Until now, we have had #WWIB's posts on dresses, feminine tuxedos , coats and sweaters, so it was pretty obvious that this one would be on....skirts!
This particular one is from Sportmax Fall 2014 collection and has been worn first by Taylor Schilling  the 18th Annual Webby Awards last May while Kerry Washington wore it early in June @ the Women In Film 2014 Crystal + Lucy Awards.
If I have to take a side, I would probabily opt for Taylor's look, only because I really like the skirt with a white top. What do you thik? Let me know!

Thanks to the movie "Grace of Monaco", that opened Cannes Film Festival last May, I thought to do a comparison between two of the most influential people of the last century: Lady Diana Spencer and Grace Kelly, Princess of Monaco.

They may seem to have NOTHING in common, except being the most popular princesses of all times. However, there are a few things in which Lady D and Grace Kelly were similar, starting with that both the biopics based on their lives caused a lot of press critics and indignation from their royal families!

Actress who played her: Naomi Watts
Actress who played her: Nicolo Kidman
Both Press and Royal House opinions were negatives

Royals reactions: not a word. They didn't comment.
Press reactions: They all agree that Nicole Kidman is a talented actress, but the  movie tells a story that otherwise would have some potential
Royals reactions: A Royal statement said: "The movie is too glamorours, contains historical inaccuracies and purely fictitious scenes".
Both Diana and Grace died in a car accident
