Top Ten Tuesday [Christmas Edition] - Top Ten Books I Wouldn't Mind Santa Leaving Under My Tree This Year

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish.
It was meant to be only for books BUT I changed it a little bit so will be 5 books I want to read but don't own yet and 5 movies I'm planning to see PLUS it's going to be monthly not weekly.

The Lunar Chronicles
First it was just about the book cover, I think they're are BEYOND awesome...then I love the
fact that they're a distortion of classic fairytales!

Lea Seydoux vs Corinne Bailey Rae

It's no news Italian designers are famous among celebrities, so it doesn't surprise me that also this Miu Miu dress has been worn twice within a month.
Seydoux wore this Miu Miu Resort 2016 dress for “Spectre” photocall in Mexico City, on November 1st. Lea rocked it with a straight chignon and silver sandals. Later (alway in November) singer Corinne Bailey Rae has been spotted with the same dress at the Mercury Music Prize. She opted for a different hairstyle and shoe choice in compared to Lea’s choices.

Lea Seydoux or Corinne Bailey Rae?

Cure it with Movies/Books: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

The general definition of "Post Traumatic Stress Disorder" (PTSD) is this: 'an anxiety disorder that can develop after a person is exposed to one or more traumatic events, such as sexual assaultwarfaretraffic collisionsterrorism or other threats on a person's life.'
(from Wikipedia)

Especially after what happened recently in Europe, Turkey and (for years now) in Syria, I wanted to know more about this disorder and, beside reading specialized medical articles and news papers, I also watched movies and read a few novels on this theme.
It's usually diagnosed on ex military or people who have been in war zones, but also people who have been witnessed/lived extreme violent events, such as death treats, physical assaults and so on.

So here my suggestions.

Anne Hathaway vs Princess Stéphanie of Monaco

From an "on screen" princess  to a real life princess, here a brand new Who Wore It Best!
American actress Anne Hathaway wore this peculiar red lips Garance Dore X Equipment Daddy shirt for her guest appearance at Good Morning America, last September. She styled the shirt with a leather dark blue skirt, sunglasses and her signature smile! On the other side (of the picture and of the world) Princess Stéphanie of Monaco attended, with the same shirt, the night Auctions for Fight Aids in Monaco, the 1st of December. Her style was more classic, with black trousers and matching red lipstick.

Jennifer Lopez vs Melanie Laurent vs Nieves Alvarez

How amazing is this Blumarine sparkly striped dress? Is the reason why not two, but three celebs wore it within few months of difference?
Jennifer Lopez was the first who wore it, in the backstage at ‘American Idol XIV’ Top 5 show, back in April. Then there has been French actress Melanie Laurent at the opening season night gala of the Ballet National de Paris in September and last but not least Spanish Tv presenter Nieves Alvarez at the 2015 Telva Awards, earlier this month.

Three different people, three different countries and the same dress. Now let me know...

Novel Of The Week [Christmas Edition]: Maybe This Christmas by Sarah Morgan

I decided that, since Christmas is only 4 weeks away, to post only reviews of "winter holidays" themed books, instead of doing a single post with my suggestions.
Hope you'll like it!
left and center: the English covers and left: the Italian one

This is the third novel of the "O'Neil Brothers" series, but thankfully they all can be read independently and this is a wonderful news for me because (AS ALWAYS!!) I didn't know it was a serie and I went straight to read the last one...I'm hopeless!
Here's my review and thought on Maybe This Christmas by Sarah Morgan

Shailene Woodley vs Natalie Dormer vs Sophie, Countess of Wessex

Today we have a new designer that enters the WWIB world and I'm talking about Mary Katrantzou and her Lamur guipure lace and jacquard midi dress, who has been worn by three splendid celebrities over the past year (and one of them is a Brit Royal family member!)

Nothing to add, if not: enjoy!
Early this year, in March, American actress Shailene Woodley was guest of the ‘Late Show With David Letterman for the promotion of her latest movie "Insurgent" and that's when Mary Katrantzou's dress made its first appearance. The young actress styled it with ankle laced pumpd and an basic hair updo.
After her, there have been two other stars who wore this piece: actress Natalie Dormer during last Comic-Con (opting for more elaborated shoes and a messy ponytail hairstyle) and Sophie, Countess of Wessex at the Harper’s Bazaar "Women of the Year Awards" event early this Novemebr in London. Needless to say that the royal went for a more "lady-like" look compared to the two actresses, but it's a bit obvious since she's a bit older.

Novel Of The Week: Rome (Marked Men #3) by Jay Crownover

One thing I should have learned by now is to read the novel's plot!; by doing that I would have known this is the THIRD book of the Maked Men series and I would have spared myself for the first 20 pages of not understanding a thing about the characters.
Beside this, here my reviews and thoughts on Rome by Jay Crownover.

Jessica Biel vs Beth Behrs

I don't think we've ever had a Self-Portrait #WWIB, but thankfully there's a first time for everything!
The first of today's contestants wore this black lace/ blue culotte Self-Portrait's jumpsuit was actress Jessica Biel, while attenting at the launch party for her Bare It All + Bare AW15 event, last August.
She opted for a high chignon (too high, in my opinion), barely there make up and nude pumps.
"2 Broke Girl" actress Beth Behrs wore the same jumpsuit at the celebration of CBS series 100th episode last October, and styled it with similar pumps as Jessica, and a messy hair updo.

Who Wore It Best: Salvatore Ferragamo edition

Salvatore Ferragamo is an Italian fashion brand founded by the homonym designer in 1927. The brand recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of the first store opened in China and the renewed flagship store in Shanghai with a gala dinner.

The guests were marvellous in the brand fashion pieces, but a few of those Chinese actresses were not the only ones who wore them!
Nayoung Keem wore this Salvatore Ferragamo Fall 2015 striped sweater and ribbed skirt and pratically added nothing to it. Just a simpe black purse and black heels. We can say the same for Krysten Ritter, who wore the same outfit a few days after for her appearence at SiriusXM Studios, but I have to say I like the shoes she chose!
Cody Horn wore this coloured striped dress last Septembet while attending the celebration of 100 years of Ferragamo in Hollywood (I know I wrote the brand was found in 1927, don't ask me why 100 years!) and the same dress was choosen by Wang Ho at the Shanghai gala dinner.
Last but not least were Camilla Belle (at the 100 years in Hollywood event) and Zhou Yi (at the Shanghai event) who both opted for this black lace dress. While Camilla went for dual black lace over green skirt,  Zhou wore a total blak lace skirt and added a brown belt instead of a black one.

That's all for this Who Wore it Best edition, let me know in the comments who do you think owned the look and who didn't!

Novel Of The Week: Beautiful Redemption by Jamie McGuire

Happy Sunday everyone! Here to you my review and thoughts on the catching new novel by Jamie McGuire: Beautiful Redemption. (SPOILERS? ... a bit!)

Bella Heathcote vs Anna Foglietta

Aussie actress Bella Heathcote wore Gucci Fall 2015 burgundy lace top and leather pleated skirt first while attending Entertainment Weekly’s Annual Comic-Con Party back in July. She went for lace up heels and beach waves hairstyle, showing off her new ice blond hair color.
The same outif has been worn by Italian actress Anna Foglietta at the Ellen Page, A Tribute To Commitment dinner party during 2015 Rome Film Festival, later last October. She was even more minimal in accessories and make up, smart choice given the particular dress.

#TTT: Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish.
It was meant to be only for books BUT
I changed it a little bit so will be 5 books I want to read but don't own yet and 5 movies I'm planning to see PLUS it's going to be monthly not weekly.

What I've seen of the previous #TTTs:
The intern  3½/5 I found this movie emotional, instructive and a beatiful example of friendship and trust.
Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials 2½/5 - It's completely different from the book version. It is well acted by the cast, but you might wait the dvd to be out if you're not bursting to see it.

This month wishlist

Spectre (2015) by Sam Mendes. With Daniel Craig, Monica Bellucci,
Christoph Waltz and Léa Seydoux.

Kristin Davis vs Saoirse Ronan

This Stella McCartney Fall 2015 jumpsuit has been worn by two actresses within a week, but in two very different events...let's have a look!
Former "Sex and the City" actress Kristin Davis wore it first at the EMA Awards last Saturday and opted for a loose hairstyle and long earrings. Actress  Saoirse Ronan wore the white version of the same jumpsuit while attending the premiere of  her last movie ‘Brooklyn’ on Thursday. She was uber chich with her elegant chignon and, like Kristin, important long earrings.

I actually think they both look gorgeous, but I would prefer if they kept it simple with the earrings and exaggerated with a statement necklace.

Kristin Davis or Saoirse Ronan?

Chiara Ferragni vs Hannah Bagshawe

Yes, we have a Valentino creation....again. And yes, fashion blogger Chiara Ferragni is one of the contestants...again. No, you're not having a deja-vù, I told you: "everybody loves Valentino"...it appears, some celebs more than others.
Chiara Ferragni wore it first last March, for the Paris Fashion Week. "She styled it a with some shoes" to quote Carrie Bradshaw. In fact, she paired the Valentino short floral/grey dress with brigth fucsia laced up heels while Hannah Bagshawe (aka Eddy Redmayne's wife) wore it early last September for "Danish Girl" premiere during 2015 Toronto International Film Festival. She opetd for silver sandals, loose hair style and a neutral make up.

Novel Of The Week: Time and Time Again by Ben Elton

This is the first book I started reading from the ones I bought in Ireland. The cover is so eye catching I could not leave it in the bookshop.
Here's my review and thoughts on Time and Time Again by Ben Elton!

Rachel Weisz vs Chiara Ferragni

It's safe to say that everybody loves Valentino, and this "Who Wore it Best" is a further proof of that! I'm running out of adjectives for describing Valentino's dresses and gowns, so I'll simply refer to them as a pieces of art!
Rachel Weisz wore this Valentino Resort 2016 colourful gown during last Toronto Film Festival, mid September. The occasion was the premiere of her last movie "Youth". Since the complexity of the dress, she wisely decided to keep the hairstyle and jewelleries minimal.
Fashion blogger Chiara Ferragni had to wear the same dress for the Valentino party held during the (now over) Paris Fashion Week. She also keep it minimal, but left her hair loose and added some bling with bracelets and rings.

Rachel Weisz or Chiara Ferragni?

Charlotte Casiraghi vs Ellie Goulding

BREAKING NEWS: For the first time we have a #WWIB with a royal member who's NOT Kate Middleton...can I have a round of applause?
This blue foral dress by Gucci has been worn by Monaco royal family member Charlotte Casiraghi (she has been one of the brand ambassadors for years) during the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, last May, at the premiere of the movie "Carol".
The same dress, in its short version, made its second appearance on Brit singer Ellie Goulding earlier this October, for Gucci’s Chime For Change after party.

Charlotte surely put on some "royal sparkle" to the dress, but OMG Ellie Goulding's pale pink shoes are to die for!!!

Michelle Williams vs Poppy Delevigne

Today we have a "custom" #WWIB because the two celebrities here wore the same Louis Vuitton Resort 2016 dress, but one opted for the short and simple version, while the other went for the runway show look.
Actress Michelle Williams wore it short at the ‘Galerie’ opening event in July, today (July 6) at the Louis Vuitton Family Home in Asnières-Sur-Seine, Paris. True to her signature style, she went for a "barely there" make up and flat leather sandals...the opposite of socialite Poppy Delevingne, who went for a more edgy and rock look while at the Louis Vuitton Series 3 VIP launch, last September.
She wore way much more leather than Michelle and also her make up was stronger.

I'm biased here, because I'm a fan of Michelle Williams and I adore her chic and minimal look.

Tell me, which style do you prefer?

Novel Of The Week: Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

It is starting to becoming an habit (for me) to watch movies/tv series based on book first and then actually read them...Outrageous, I know! Based on the 1^ season of the series and the 1^ book of the saga, here my review and thoughts on Outlander by Diana Gabaldon!

Jennifer Lopez vs Kaitlyn Dever

We have to go back to last year Gucci Fall 2014 collection for this sparkling dress, worn by two celebrities with more than 1 year gap. Let's do this!
"American Idol" judge/actress/singer Jennifer Lopez wore it first for the Top 2 live performance during the 13 season of the singing show. She completed the look with Jimmy Choo's black leather pumps.
On October, 2nd, "Last Man Standing" actress Kaitlyn Dever wore the exact same dress during the Teen Vogue Young Hollywood Party and she styled it with black shiny pumps and a low pony tail.

Blair Eadie vs Diane Kruger

Today we have a "blondies battle" with a beautiful Simona Rocha dress, who helps us starting this autumnal season with a pop of tweed and red!
Fashion blogger Blair Eadie wore this peculiar asymmetrical dress earlier this September for a photoshoot on her blog, Atlantic/Pacific, while actress Diane Kruger wore it for the premiere of the movie ‘Maryland’, a few days ago in Paris.

Blair kept it simple with matching red sunglasses and flats, leaving her hair loose, like Diane did.

As a matter of fact, the only thing the German actress changed about her outfit compared to Blair were the shoes: she opted for black high heels pumps.

Blake Lively vs Fan Bingbing

What could American actress Blake Lively and Chinese actress  Fan Bingbing possibly ever have in common? They wore the same dress!!!
Blake Lively wore this Ralph & Russo Couture dress at the Allure Magazine cover party last April, as part of her promo tour for her movie "The Age of Adaline" (which I loved BTW).
Fan Bingbing instead wore it  at the GQ Men of the Year Awards in Shanghai, last Monday.

They both opted for a similar 'high bun' hairstyle, but the shoes were completely different: Blake wore the famous "Nudist" sandals by Stuart Weitzman while Fan went for high platform pumps.

#TTT: Top Ten Tuesday - Summer 2015 Edition

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish.
It was meant to be only for books BUT
I changed it a little bit so will be 5 books I want to read but don't own yet and 5 movies I'm planning to see PLUS it's going to be monthly not weekly.

Here a recap of what I watched/read during this summer months!

in Cinemas
  • Tomorroland - 2¾/5 I found it very nice, maybe Britt Robertson's character is a bit too much over the edge, but in the complex I liked it.
  • Pitch Perfect 2 - 1/5 I understand it: the first movie quickly became a cult, so they had to monetize on it. But, since the result of this second chapter is THIS, they probably should have stopped on the first one (for me, at least!).
  • The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness - 3¾/5 Hayao Miyazaki turned out to be incredibly different from what I thought he was.
  • The Longest Ride (my review HERE)  - 4/5
  • Minions - 3/5 I admit that some scenes are hilarious, but I wouldn't have gone to see it if I wasn't going with children.
  • Terminator Genesys - 3/5 I never saw any of the previous "Terminator" movies, but I found this one perfectly balanced between action and sci-fi.
  • Pixels - 3½/5 In my humble opinion: YOU HAVE TO WATCH THIS!
  • Paper Towns - 2¾/5 The cast was really good, but the story is floppy.
  • Trainwreck - 4½/5 I propose LeBron James as a candidate for "Best Male actor in a Supporting role" for the 2016 Oscars and, even if the movie is long (the entire dating part with John Cena could have been removed), it's worthing the ticket prize.
  • Inside Out - 4/5 Another big story from Disney/Pixar!
  • The Rewrite - 3/5 Really good cast and not obvious story, I liked it!
in DVD
  • Insurgent - 2/5 If you read my review (HERE) then you already know what I thought about the novel....not that much different from my opinions on the movie.
  • the "Hobbit" trilogy - 4/5 Really good, but The Lord of the Rings remains my favourite trilogy by Tolkien's books.
  • Carnage - 2½/5 I know it's based on a theatrical piece and that on screen it's obviously different, but it didn't give me any feeling.
  • Spirited Away - 5/5 It well deserved the Oscar for Best animated Movie.
  • Suite Française - 5/5 Heart meltin!
  • Daddy Long Legs by Jean Webster
  • All The Bright  Places by Jennifer Niven (my review HERE)
  • Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Riggs Ransom
  • Heroes of Olympus #1 and #2 (The Lost Hero & The Son of Neptune) by Rick Riordan
