On Sunday, 26th of February took place the 89th edition of the....OSCARS! It has been quite a little hectic evening, between mistakes and political speeches, but I'm here to talk about the second most important thing of the event: the gowns we've seen on the red carpet!

🎬 Movie Review: Passengers

First movie of this 2017 for me has been "Passengers" by Morten Tyldum. It's a space romance/thriller and I didn't pay too much attention on anything that wasn't the main actors: Jennifer Lawrence, Chris Pratt and Michael Sheen...
I needed a few days to decide whether I liked this movie or not, read through my review and opinions to find it out!

In the near future, humanity CAN travel in space to create colonies on other planets, thanks to technologically advanced spaceships; these machines are able to drive themselves to the determined destination and also to auto repair any damage it may happen on the way: that because this travels take several years to end, so crew and guests are under controlled ibernation until they are just a few months away from the colony.

In collision with a group of asteroids, the spaceship suffers of more problems than expected and will cause James "Jim" Preston early awakening (by 'early' I mean 90 YEARS before schedule!). Understandably shattered, Jim does literally anything to try to fix the malfunction, without success.

The only other 'person' onboard is Arthur, the android barkeeper, that will make Jim feel a bit less alone and when he finally gives up and accepts the situation, Jim decides to enjoy all the spaceship's comforts and amenities; one year later, he's falling apart and gets so close to make an extreme gesture...that's when he finds a capsule, with a splendid young woman in it, Aurora.
He tries to resist, but in the end tampers with Aurora's capsule and wakes her up, feeling guilty and relieved not being alone anymore at the same time.
After an idilliac period knowing and falling for each other, eventually Aurora finds out the truth about her awakening, but that will be the least of hers and Jim's problems...

My Opinion

The story is good and th special effects are terrific! They did a great job casting Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt (even if he's a bit stuck doing the same kind of character, the good/funny guy whom eventually will save us all...not that I'm complaning!) but the best interpretation is Michael Sheen's android: he was fantastic, I think he really portrayed Arthur masterfully.
I really didn't like the finale at all, though. I would have loved a shorter amount of problems for Jim and Aurora with a more elaborated conclusion.

Would I have paid the total priced ticket for seeing it? Not 100% sure, but I paid the discount one and I think it was worth it, I left the movie a bit puzzled about the ending but it left me positive vibes overall.

👗Elsa Hosk vs Amber Valletta

I thinks this is the first time I make a comparison on two celebs who wore the same dress not within days/weeks one from another, but almost 2 years!
Yes, because Victoria’s Secret Angel's Elsa Hosk wore this form fitting black dress by Anthony Vaccarello back in November 2015! while attending the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show after party. She kept it pretty "simple" with black laced up sandals and a shining make up!

Actress Amber Valletta, on the other hand, wore this same dress from Vaccarello's Fall 2015 collection just a few days ago, while partecipating to WCRF’s ‘An Unforgettable Evening,’ event. She opted for a barely there make up and black pumps.

📖 Novel of the Week: Charged by Jay Crownover

And finally here's my review of the Saints of Denver second book, Charged by Jay Crownover!
US book cover vs  Italian book cover

The events in this story starts from where we left Asa (Marked Men #6) and begins with Avett Walker in jail, after been arrested for helping her ex boyfriend to robber the Bar. Lost her cocky attitude, she's scared to death and sees no way out this bad situation. Fortunately for her, Asa calls in the best lawyer in Denver, Quaid Jackson. He’s a pitbull in court and, actually, isn’t much different on his private side: cheated by his ex wife, he sorrounds himself of luxury just to prove others how much he worths.

Obviously, such different personalities will make Avett and Quaid start with the wrong foot, but that doesn’t prevent Quaid to make charges drop on Avett and she’s free again. That would be it, the two of them apparently don’t have any reason to see each other again, yet…the the prospect of a new trial for Avett, this time as a witness, and the growing curiosity toward her make Quaid do something he never did: caring of his client and offering her is legal support whenever she'll need it.

But one night, Avett is home, alone, and gets suspicious by a black car parked in her street...Apparently no one is in there, but there's something odd about it, so calls Quaid to come and check. Needless to say, the moment Quaid gets close the car, it runs away.

Seems like Avett will need Quaid's help one more time...

What I liked 👍
In "Built" we saw (briefly) Rowdy and Salem again, in this novel it's time to meet up with Asa and Rome, since Avett is somehow connected to these two. Plus we get to know both characters who'll be protagonists in the next two books: Dash "Church" Churchill and Hudson Wheeler. As always, the POV is both from Avett and Quaid's sides but the new element in Charged is that one chapter is from Church's prospective and that has been quite a surprise!

What I did not like👎
There's nothing I didn't like, but I'm not 100% convinced about the reasons why Avett acts the way she does...I feel like the author could have done better by describing her torments and her way to redeem herself.

From what I already knew about Avett and Quaid, I was pretty sure I would have hate the two of them and so the novel...I was wrong: having explained the character's backgrounds and having to see the bigger picture I enjoyed this book, but not as much as "Built".

My Vote: 6

👗 Victoria Beckham vs Selena Gomez

It doesn't happen very often that the designer of a dress gets to be compared with someone else who wore that dress as well....guess there really is a first time for everything.
Fashion designer (but for a 90's kid like yours truly she'll always be Posh Spice!) Victoria Beckham left her hotel in New York City back in December, last year. She wore an ocher long dress above a red shirt and paired it with white geometrical ankle heels and black sunglasses. One week ago (more or less) actress/singer Selena Gomez attended the annual amfAR’s New York Gala wearing the exact same piece, but paired it with leopard sandals and left her hair down in wavy locks.

How to Wear...A Statement t-shirt

Not sure if it was just me not noticing, but statement t-shirts are having a HUGE come back this year. Let me clarify: for "statement" I mean shirts with social/political references...like Dior's "We Should All Be Feminists".

Actresses like Jennifer Lawrence and Natalie Portam were seen showing with pride this t-shirt, the first on the cover of Harper's  Bazaar magazine; the other while marching in Los Angeles during the Women's March that took place there and in other cities in all the USA.

Not only them, but also singers wore the same t-shirt in support of the idea, like Rihanna and (surprise!) rapper A$AP Rocky, who wore it at a party in Paris.

Worldwide known fashion bloggers like Aimee Song from Song of Style and Chiara Ferragni from the Blonde Salad also styled this particular piece of clothing, matching it with their own style...

From chic to comfy, here's how celebs styled this statement shirt. How would you wear it?

👗 Sienna Miller vs Bárbara Lennie

It's blonde versus brunette...again!
British actress Sienna Miller was the first who wore this Gucci SS 2017 light bue dress with gold details at the "Live by Night" movie premiere in Los Angeles. Since the outfit is already original and unique, she wisely went for a classic make up (with red lipstick) and styled her hair in soft waves.
Almost a month later, this dress made another appearance on the red carpet, this time in Europe, thanks to Spanish actress Bárbara Lennie. She wore it at the Goya Awards and accessorized the look with splendid mached earrings and a simple hairstyle.

#TTT - Top Ten Tuesday

Here's the movies and books of the previous lists that I've watch/read during last month!

- Allied 4/5 - I liked it! The story is intricate enough to keep the suspance and the actors are outstanding, from the protagonists to the extras!
