📖 Novel of the Week: Rich People Problems by Kevin Kwan

Today marks the release date of the movie "Crazy Rich Asians", so which better day to post the review of the trilogy's last book?
None, precisely!
Rich People Problems by Kevin Kwan | on-sale 5.23.17 // Kevin Kwan, bestselling author of Crazy Rich Asians and China Rich Girlfriend, is back with an uproarious new novel of a family riven by fortune, an ex-wife driven psychotic with jealousy, a battle royal fought through couture gown sabotage, and the heir to one of Asia’s greatest fortunes locked out of his inheritance.Related image
Nicholas beloved grandmother (estranged for the past 5 years) and Young clan’s matriarch, Su Yi, is seriously ill and is forced to bed rest after an heart attack. All the members of her family are rushing back to her Singaporean bedside from half of the world, officially to simplify her recovery and spend the short time she still has left, but their not-so-hidden agenda is to claim all the precious manufacts and properties the old woman owns.

Parallel stories continue from where we left them: Kitty Pong (now Mrs.Bing) is on a war foot with her husband’s first daughter, Colette Bing, who’s now married with a wealthy environmental lawyer and seems to be living a more frugal and simple life than she was used to.
Astrid is going through a most orrendous divorce with Micheal Teo, whom ego has been hurt and now is as vendicative as ever.

The whole extended family is under the same roof and we don’t have to wait long for its members to start back-stabbing each others…

👍👎My Thoughts
The unexpected noir and thriller turn the trilogy take with this last book is surprising, but I must confess that "Rich People Problems" was my least favourite. Beside Astrid’s, the other parallel stories add nothing if not pages and brand’s names I had no idea existed. I would say that “Crazy Rich Asians” and “China Rich Girlfriend” are worth reading, but this one you can wait for the movie without too many remorse. Of course it has its humouristic episodes and WTF moments, but in my opinion it’s nota s engaging as the other books.

One suggestion: I have both the e-book and the audiobook and I think it made the reading exeprience more interesting, flowy and hilarious thanks to the simultaneous reading of the side notes.

My vote: 6¾ /10
