Movie Review: Furious 7

Furious 7 (2015) directed by James Wan. With Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, Jason Statham, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris and Dwayne Johnson.

Last week I finally managed to go seeing Paul Walker's last (unfortunately, literally speaking) movie. I'm a fan of the series and I found out that Universal announced that in addition to the seven movies already done, there will be threee more...of course, saying it is one thing, doing them...well, we'll see.

On its  US opening day, the movie hit the record for best April's opening of all times (with $67 million the first day and over $147 million during the first weekend...)...it's the 4th major debut, after two Harry Potter's episodes and The Avengers

By now it counts more than $800 million worldwide

Let me get into the plot and then my opinions!

[a bit of SPOILERS]

After their London"job", Dom's family is finally back home, but they stuggle getting back to daily routine: Brian is trying his best to be a good husband and father, when it's obvious that he misses of the actions, while Dom is doing anything he can to make Letty's memories back, without much success.

But soon they'll have a worst problem to face and its name is Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham), Owen Shaw's older brother. Former Brits special forces soldiers, he wants Dom and his team to pay for what they did to his brother.

In the meantime they are recruited by Mr.Nobody (Kurt Russell), chief of a secret military unit, wants them to rescue an hacker named Ramsey, who created a program (God's Eye) that can enter in any system (pc, mobile phones, security cameras) in order to locate someone (some sort of Person of Interest).

Dom and the other must save Ramsey and, in reward, they'll get to use God's Eye to find Deckard...pretty useless since he happens to be everywhere Dom is.

After saving Ramsey, who happens to be a super hot girl (and Game of Thrones' actress Nathalie Emmanuel), the team moves to Dubai, where Ramsey sent to device and nearly destroy three buildings (with a 3,5 million car) to recover it...they locate Deckard in a abandoned central, but when there, they fall victim of an ambush by Deckard and the terrorists who kidnapped Ramsey and escape that by a miracle.
They get back to L.A. and it's war! Airplanes, drone, missiles, weapons of all kind and OF COURSE! fast cars all mixed together in spectacular chaces. With some help from Hobbs (and after having nearly destroyed the entire city), Dom gets rid of Deckard Shaw and also the terrorists are took care of.

The last part of the movie is a moving and heartbreaking tribute to Brian O'Conner/Paul Walker, with the song "See You Again" in the background that (if possible) emphasized it even more, so touching and well done!

Fast & Furious 7 - tribute to #PaulWalker
My opinion

This movie can be summarize with one phrase: special effects, special effects everywhere!

The action scenes are extremely exaggerated, but they keep you in suspense until the very end and we are talking about of a more than 2 hours movie...however when I left the theathre I was so excited!
Some fighting was shoot with the camera turning 360° and that gave the scenes a "WOW" factor, I liked it!

What I found superflous was the massive presence of class A actors: from Jason Statham to Kurt Russell and Djimon Hounsou...not to mention Iggy Azalea's cameo...just too much!

I saw that Lucas Black had a part and I was happy (Tokyo Drift is my favourite of the series) and so you can immagine how disappointed I was when I found out he was in a 2 minutes scene!

Anyway, I think the movie is worthy to be seen and they did a great job managing to finish it without Paul Walker, my plause goes to his bothers Cody and Caleb!

Ranking : 3/5

  1. These movies are getting ridiculous unless you have some superpowers to explain your stunts, it doesn’t make sense.
