📺 Japanese Tv Series Review: Love Begins When The Money Ends (おカネの切れ目が恋のはじまり)

Kuki Reiko works in the accounting department of a big toy company. She's so diligent and competent in what she does because she's a frugal person: she doesn't spend money on clothes or accessories (she makes them herself), if she dines outside she either has her home-made bento box or eats in cheap places.

Saruwatari Keita is the opposite: he squanders money on everyone and on everything, without much care on the price tag, has a carefree personality, and he's always hyped and smiling.
The two are incompatible on so many levels, but they'll have to get used to each other as Saruwatari gets transferred to the accounting dept by the company's boss himself, hoping he'll learn to value money.
As time goes by and the two of them get to understand each other better, they'll set aside their initial prejudice and will form a unique and unexpected friendship...

My Opinion👍👎
This mini-series is composed of only 4 episodes (roughly 1 hour each) and I liked that is focused on how much money can influence our daily decisions and shows different perspectives and perceptions on the matter.

Reiko's way of living may appear excessively frugal but after watching it I couldn't deny that she's at peace with herself and the world...
Messages like appreciating what we already have and cherish them mix well with the lighter and more relaxed tone that Keita's happy temperament brings; these points really made the series an enjoyable one.

Unfortunately, the actor who plays Saruwatari Keita, Miura Haruma, took his own life this past July and the script had to be adjusted in order to finish the shooting...It seems to me that they managed to complete effectively, however, the last episode felt to me like a tribute to Miura, and because I was aware of the circumstances I must admit it did distract me a little bit from the story.
It was an enjoyable series, shaded by such a tragedy, but Miura Hurama acting was definitely spot on and I loved and laughed so much because of all of his facial expressions!
