Basically, this is what happened in the Asian continent as well, in the past few years and that's what I'm here to talk about today.
It can be a risky move as a tv series has virtually no time limit to develop the plot's events while the movie has time restrictions, meaning some aspects change or are completely left out. But it's not a general rule, just go read my Never Gone review HERE to understand what I mean.
Well, without further add here's a list of Korean/Chinese/Japanese dramas that hit the big screen!
So Young 2: So You're Still Here (Chinese movie - 2016) vs Never Gone (C-Drama 2018)
Recap if you don't have time to read my full review: the movie's better if you just want to pass time, the tv series if you're learning Chinese or really liked the movie and want more developments and events.
So I Married an Anti-Fan: Movie (Chinese movie - 2016) vs K-Drama (2018, TBA)
Being a 'hater' now is a thing and, basically, that's what the movie is about: a Chinese journalist loses her job because she has been disrespectful of an A's list Korean singer/actor and starts a campaign against him. Someone decides that is would be interesting for the two to spend time together so that the hater could eventually change her mind...what happens is so much more than this.
A K-Drama based on it has already been filmed, but an airing date is yet to be disclosed.
Cheese in the Trap: K-Drama (2016) vs Movie (2018)
Let's switch, shall we? The 2016 series has been so well received, thanks to the wonderful cast, so a movie with the same male lead has been filmed and released 2 years later. Honestly, I found the drama weird and a bit confusing already nevertheless, I decided to watch the movie...learn from my mistakes, if you want to give it a try, go with the tv series!
Code Blue: J-Drama (2008-2010) vs Movie (2018)
Soul Mate (Chinese movie - 2016) vs Another Me (C-Drama 2019)
Both movie and tv series have the same plot: two girls, with two opposite characters, are friends since they can remember and would do anything for one another...They both meet a man and fall in love, which isn't a big deal if only the man they fell in love with wasn't the same for both of them!
Bad Guys: K-Drama (2014) vs Movie (2019)
HERE you can find my k-drama review. This series is very dark and extreme at some points, but it's worth watching...You can also choose between a first 2014 series and a second one (with different protagonists) that aired in 2017.
Two actors from the 2014's one took back their roles in the same name movie that has released in South Korea this summer and was quite successful.
Last, but not least, it has been recently revealed that the 2019 movie “Miss & Mrs. Cops” starring Ra Mi Ran and Lee Sung Kyung, will be remade into a drama.
And this was everything for the Eastern side of our world...
cinematically and televised speaking.
