This drama focuses on the lives of Su Yunjin and Cheng Zheng, from their first encounter in high school all the way through college up to adulthood.
Su Yunjin is a quiet, reflective young girl. She gets teased a lot by Cheng Zheng, especially because of her bad grades in math (I can totally relate). One day he offers to become her tutor and that's how they became friends.
Cheng Zheng not only is good looking and easygoing but he also comes from a wealthy family, which is why Sun Yunjin keeps him at distance, both physically and emotionally.
However, Cheng Zheng really cares about her so he pursues her throughout high school as well as in college, even if he goes to Beijing and she attends one in Shanghai.
There she won't be alone since also her best friend Mo Yuhua attends the same college (med degree). Once there the duo finds out that Cheng Zheng's best friend (and Mo Yuhua's love interest) Zhou Ziyi will attend the sport degree at their college.
Su Yunjin and Cheng Zheng's relationship will develop (the same goes for Mo Yuhua and Zhou Ziyi's) between misunderstandings, one-sided loves, laughter, and tears.
My Opinion👍👎
Never Gone has been the first Chinese drama I've ever watched and it took me a while to finish because it is long! 36 episodes with a medium length of 45 minutes each shouldn't have been a problem, but they're filled with tons of silent moments...and those, yes, have been kind of annoying.
This Tv series is the 'reboot' of the same name 2016 movie, which I also watched.
Personally I must say I liked the movie better, it's much more dynamic and engaging...but of course, the Tv series has also its positive sides: it's funny, the situations explored are relatable, the characters' behaviors and personalities are detailed and the reasons much clearer.
A big shout out for the scenographies, cured from H to T, I particularly loved the setting in Su Yunjin's hometown, a picturesque Chinese village.
On one thing I have no doubts: in both the movie and tv drama, it's not easy for Su Yunjin to entrust people, which is why she's overly cautious. It's not necessarily a bad quality, but I grew tired of this behavior after episode 15: what does poor Cheng Zheng have left to do to prove her how sincere his feelings and intentions are?
I'd suggest the tv series to people interested in Chinese culture or those who are studying Chinese, while to those who have no patience to wait for the events to develop...go for the movie!
Ranking: 3/5
