📺 Korean Tv Series Review: Bad Guys (나쁜 녀석들)

And here we go with another year of Korean Drama reviews! This one is almost 5 years old, but I'm now watching all the series with Park Hae Jin because, after watching Man to Man, I wanted to see if he was credible as the bad guy...

When the police chief asks Detective Oh Goo-Tak to find the responsible for his son's death, the detective puts together an unlikely team of three criminals who, thanks to their specific individual abilities, (strength, resourcefulness, and intelligence) are able to find the culprit in no time.
From that moment on the team gets more various assignments, but Inspector Yoo Mi-Youngthe other police officer of the team, soon finds out that Detective Goo-Tak had his personal reasons when he picked out the members.
Hidden agendas, personal vengeance, and hunting pasts are the main ingredients of this police/thriller drama, which has a dark vibe from the very beginning.

My Opinion👍👎
This 2014 series precedes the concept of using bad people to ‘hunt’ bad people that became familiar thanks to “Suicide Squad” as well as the newest trend of making movies about villains (Maleficent and Venom, for example).
I appreciated the fact that the aim here isn’t to justify why the criminals became so, but to show how also those who’re supposed to be the “good guys” can transform into the worst of all.
Scenographies are really gloomy, it rains almost 80% of the series and even when the scene is set during daytime the cold vibe never leaves; especially the first couple of episodes reminded me of 'Sin City', given the hardness and rudeness of the techniques used for the shootings.

This is one of the shortest K-Dramas I've ever seen, it's only 11 episodes. I'd suggest the view to fans of TV series like "Criminal Minds", "True Detective" or anyone who likes characters who are as far from the typical hero stereotype as they can be...here it's difficult to find someone who's righteous and even if the final goal is to defeat criminality, their methods aren't always according to law.

Ranking: 4¼/5
