The only thing Juliet Joyce longs is the perfect Christmas, with homemade food, tons of presents and with every member of her family jolly and serene...Reality, however, couldn't be more far from this desire: both her children are selfish, lazy and have no intention of leaving the house and start to take care for themselves. Her mother, Rita, who has been rude and difficult to deal with for as long as Juliet can remember, is showing signs of demetia and is even harder to bare with.
Thankfully she doesn't have to worry about her father, who recently turned out to be gay, and her extremly patient husband, Rick...
But life's unpredictable and as Christmas Day gets closer, Juliet and Rick will have to face a tragic and unexpected event, Rita's daily uncontrolled behaviors and any other sorts of problems you could think of, making Julies fear everything will fall apart before the big day....
👍👎My Thoughts
This book is going to be remember as the SADDEST Christmas
story I’ve ever read! Seriously, that’s why it took me so much to finis hit…every
turning page ment more dramas for the ever ottimist and strong protagonist and
one more stomach’s knot for me!
Juliet is the ultimate heroine: generous (way too much
sometimes!), always putting her and her needs after everybody else. Even so she
has her flaws , which make her just more human and relatable. Her family is
complete madness, her senile mother first, but thankfully she has her husband
that fills even the most tragic situation with the purest example of British
humour!
Before you start the book I highly recommend you to watch
tons of kitties and baby pandas videos, but I’d still say it is worth reading exactly because
it is not the average Christmas book! Plus, I don’t know why, but I love
English characters because they often say “bloody”, “lad” and such a slang
always makes me feel like I’m in England! (exactly like Covent Garden in theSnow)

I love that cover, although I'm not sure I really want a less than cheerful and cheesy holiday book at the moment...although I still may check this out later. - Katie
ReplyDeleteYes, it's different from the avarege Christmas novel, but it is still filled with the magic of the period, even if in a more realistic way.
