📺 Korean Tv Series Review: Welcome (어서와)

Kim Sol-Ah, a young and smiley designer /webtoon artist wannabe, differentiates people in two categories: dog-like and cat-like, identifying herself in the former because of her bright personality and need for a constant display of affection.
Unfortunately, most of the people in her life are more cat-like: reserved, quiet, and detached.
She actually can't get over the boy she had a crush on, Lee Jae-Sun, so she helps him by adopting his ex-girlfriend's cat since he's allergic to the animal.

Initially, she takes care of the beautiful white cat just because she wants to prove to Jae-Sun that she's able to and isn't prejudiced just because she prefers dogs...eventually, she'll grow fond of it.
The cat (renamed Hong-Jo) is, however, a special one: he can actually transform into a human young man every time he's nearby Sol-Ah.
That will lead to a lot of misadventures for both of them as well as funny sketches as their feelings develop into something more than caregiver/pet.
Me, at the end of this quarantine...and I don't even own a cat! #Welcome #meowthesecretboy #어서와 #quarantinemood #quarantinememes #kdrama

My Opinion👍👎
I've stated multiple times on this blog, so if I say once more isn't going to make any difference: I love dogs and, paradoxically, this was the reason why I decided to watch the drama: I was super curious about how the story would be like since the protagonist (who by her own admission prefers dogs) ends up living with a cat.

The love/hate relationship between human Hong-Jo and Jae-Sun was the highlight of their scenes together, they kept on teasing (more or less playfully) each other, but when help was needed they were there for one another.

The supporting cast was also a great one, the second lead couple was almost show-stealing in confront of the lead one. The interactions between the sweet but shy Ji Eun and the overly lively Doo-Sik were hilarious and extremely cute!

I found "Welcome" a fairly engaging and entertaining drama, with quite a few intense moments of seriousness and dealing with interesting and deep topics.

Whether it was not on the same level as hit dramas like 'Crash Landing on You', I still don't understand why it had such low view ratings: the overall vibe was very light and I think the aim was for the viewer to feel light-hearted at the end of each episode...or at least, that's how I felt.

Rating: 3/5
