📺 Korean Tv Series Review: Crash Landing on You (사랑의 불시착)

South Korean businesswoman Yoon Se-Ri has everything: she's smart, beautiful, and successful...she also has a family who basically hates her and does everything to make her feel unwelcomed. It hurts, but Se-Ri goes on by her own rules.

On the test day for some sports clothes, Se-Ri herself goes paragliding and all is fine up until she gets got in a tornado and is dragged beyond the DMZ, in North Korean territory.
There, North Korean army captain, Ri Jeong-Hyeok, finds her and after a first moment where he wants to report her, ultimately he decides to hide her and, together with his platoon of 4, try to find a way to send her back home.

Easier to be said than done since sneaky and ambitious army office Cho Cheol-Gang has suspect on Yoon Se-Ri's real identity and does whatever he can to expose her and Captain Ri.

My Opinion👍👎
If this is the level that is going to be for the entire 2020, I foresee a great year in South Korean dramas!
Seriously, 'Crash Landing' has been amazing from minute one and I still can't get over all the plot twists and incredible events showed.
Both leading and supporting actors/actresses (and those who had just a quick cameo) brought their A-game; they were so good that the leading couple was gossiped to be dating each other (fake news).

The North/South Korea issue is, obviously, the constant thread with 10 episodes set up North and the remaining 6 down South. North Korean defectors have been cast as consultants and advisors to make it more believable and even them were surprised by how successful the drama has been, praising the cast and crew for their job. This show underwent several delays due to weather conditions and festivities and yet it not only didn't lose popularity, but each episode broke the records set from the previous one!

My personal favorite are Captain Ri's comrades: they had to deal with lots of difficulties in order to protect their Captain, showing a level of loyalty that goes beyond the army hierarchy's respect and is similar to a close friendship. Plus, they're all extremely hilarious and I just can't get over with all their adventures and misinterpretations of South Korean's behaviors.
Yoon Se-ri is the ultimate female role model: intelligent, witty, beautiful and strong. It's a miracle she managed to survive (and I mean, literally!) her obnoxious family and managed to create an empire of her own.
I wouldn't describe Captain Ri's character has the 'knight in shiny armor', but he's a good man who can discern between what's good and bad, even if he grew up in a strict and repressive environment like North Korea.

Parallel to the main one, we also get the background stories of the supporting characters (both North and South Korea's) and they're all compelling as well.
Really, there's not a single thing wrong with this drama:
costumes and sceneries are so detailed and on point, I didn't get the feeling that situations and events (even if fictitious) were overly exaggerated or politically manipulated.

I'd say that 'Crash Landing on You' is like Mary Poppins!

If you're new to K-Dramas and wonder which one you should start with, look no further and go with 'Crash Landing'!
