Shin's life turns upside down as the mysterious arrival of these women is followed by some rules he must respect, always: he can't neither question them about their lives nor enter their rooms. All 6 of them must have dinner together and he has to protect them.
Even if they're all equally evasive and mysterious, the women are of different age and characters:
Shirakawa Minami is the toughest and coolest, always wears black, and mocks Shin because of his inability to write a best selling novel.
Tsukamoto Hitomi she spends her time between reading books and doing yoga. She's a cheerful person and believes Shin has the potential to become a renowned author.
Kobayashi Yuki usually the quietest among the ladies, but when she speaks she has absolutely no filters, whether she tells a compliment or insult someone.
Seki Nanaka is the second youngest, has a bright personality like Hitomi, and makes no secret she has a crush for Shin. Her past will quickly surface again and will somehow affect Shin's new novel.
Suzumura Midori is just a highschool girl, she's very polite and opinionated, but also very insecure. She often discusses with Minami and her weird habits when she's inside the house.
Also, Minami starts to investigate who sent the invitations and for what purpose...
My Opinion👍👎
The series has 12 episodes (more or less 20 minutes each) so it's perfect if you're up for a quick yet eventful story.
The balance between the comedy/light part perfectly mixes with the thriller/creepy side. Usually in short detective/mystery series, I'm able to spot the culprit before the show ends and I thought I've detected it too this time and then BAM! I was wrong and that made me like "Million Yen Women" even more since it's not predictable and has a lot of interesting plot twists.
For me, the character that stands out among the others is Minami: a badass girl that didn't let her past affect her future and actually managed to create a successful career (not a fan of it tho!). I loved her interactions with the other women and how protective she became when the situation asked for it.
They became fond of each other and towards Shin, who's clueless about everything that's going on around him most of the time, but in the end, he masters up the courage the girls gave him and stands up for himself, without changing his character completely.
I was amazed by the loyalty Mr. Sakurai (Shin's editor) towards him and his novels; he's always supportive and positive Shin's next novel will be the one turning him into an A-list author.
I still have issues understanding the presence of two characters: a young best-selling author, who should supposedly be Shin's contestant for the 'best author' throne, and a literary critic who despises Shin's as a writer (and I sense as a human being as well)... There's this parallel story about them, but frankly, I don't see the point of their appearances if not to make the girls (and me, with them!) stand up to protect Shin.
This was a binge-watching kind of show and it was totally worth it. I think I might start reading the manga it is based on as well.
