Appearances can be deceptive as the Thrombey couldn't be farther from the perfect family they try to seem. Even if the detectives assigned to the case assure all the family members that they're getting questioned out of protocol and no one is suspecting them, as soon as they have the chance it's a sequence of tragicomic attempts from each family member to point the finger to someone else.
Only Marta, Harlan Thrombey's private nurse and confident, isn't blaming anyone but on the contrary, is firmly convinced none of them could be a murderer. Since Marta is incapable of lying, detective Blanc asks her to assist him during the investigations and by retracing the murderer's steps they'll uncover much more than the usual family's skirmishes...
My Opinion👍👎
It has been a while since the last time I enjoyed a movie as much as I liked 'Knives Out'!
Private detective Benoit Blanc reminded me a lot of fictional detectives like Poirot or Sherlock Holmes: witty, sarcastic, extremely observant and clever.
I appreciated a lot the aesthetics: even if it's set nowadays, the interior design of the mansion has a strong 80ies vibe and I loved how colorful the characters' clothes are!
In the beginning, I was afraid the movie's pace would have been slow and more introspective, but my fears were quickly put to rest as soon as Marta, the nurse, is summoned at Harlan's mansion.
From that moment up to the end, it's a continuous of guessing who the murder up until your guess is proved not guilty.
If you thought your family was a mess...just wait to meet the Thrombeys: they set a whole new level of craziness and selfishness it's just beyond anything I could have imagined.
Double thumbs-up to the cast, which is spectacular and makes it difficult to decide who acts best. Plus, it was refreshing seeing Cris Evans playing a different character rather than Captain America, he gives a brilliant performance in the 'rebel heir' role!
I found the directorial style similar to Guy Ritchie's The Man from U.N.C.L.E, full of plot twists and hilarious dialogues, so if you like that kind of movie this is surely a must-watch!
'Knives Out' has been nominated at the last Academy Awards in the Best Original Screenplay category, if you needed another reason why you should watch it.
Personally, I had the feeling it could be a good movie but didn't put many expectations, which is why I was left positively surprised by how great it is!
