Ski season is almost over and Mia Davis is about to leave her beloved job at the implant service to start a new one in guest relations, when Ryder Montgomery
falls from the chair lift, hitting his head. When he regains consciousness and sees Mia’s
worried face, Ryder says the unexpected: he’s convinced he and Mia are engaged and about to tie the knot within a few weeks.
Mia plays along until they reach the hospital, but a few
days after Ryder is still acting like they’ve been a couple for years and Mia
gets swirled into daydreaming that it was real. She even goes to his house to
feed his dog and set things ready for when Ryder gets discharged...
A relationship with him is, however, complicated due to
Ryder’s family: they have known and treated Mia like a daughter long before her dad died and they're pushing (not even that subtly) Mia towards Carter, Ryder’s half brother, as they think they would make a perfect match. On the other side, Ryder
and his father haven’t spoken to each other for years, putting Mia in a difficult spot.
👍👎My Thoughts
On the whole, this is an easy and quick read that mountain lovers will definitely
appreciate.
I liked the offseason setting with all the landscapes’ descriptions. However, it felt a bit unrealistic and overly done with Mia postponing telling the truth to Ryder.
She struggles to deal with her own feelings, the sense of duty she feels for the Montgomery family and what's the right thing to do and since THESE are the main focus of the story, I think the choice of making it a clean romance has been the right one.
