❝Families should be together at Christmas,
despite how much they think they shouldn't be.❞
Every Christmas is the same for the Collins clan: they pack up and spend it at Henbourn Manor where Nana Rose will put her amazing culinary and organization skills to good use and gather her family together for the holidays.
Unfortunately, this year will be different and it's all up to Lottie to grant Nana's wish for a big family Christmas.
Even if not everyone was enthusiastic about going to the small English countryside village for Christmas, Lottie manages to make them all come: her incredibly self-centered mother Angie and her newest flirt Scott, Lottie's uncle Daniel with her stiff wife Nicola and their son Rhys.
Lottie's beloved older brother Zach, his daughter Jessie and Zach's girlfriend Emily complete the group.
Lottie has been living at Henbourn Manor with Nana and great uncle Bernard for a while so she is taken aback when her mother and uncle inform her they put the estate on sale. And where on Earth would she end up living? Unfortunately, this is the first of a series of revelations and news the entire family will discover in just a handful of days, some funny, some more serious, and that have been dragged out for way too much time...
To add chaos to an already messy situation, Lottie's first love and ex-boyfriend Joe Broomfield appears back home after he left 9 years ago to go living in America.
Just not the quiet and relaxed family Christmas Lottie had imagined...
👍👎My Thoughts
This was quite an eventful novel, with tons of unexpected disclosures about all family members' past and their guests as well so be prepared for plot twists at almost every new chapter!
The story is actually pretty long and it's hard to think that the time span is only 4 days but I found it engaging and interesting, so once you get into the characters and the story, the flow will go naturally.
I liked that all characters get their fair share of the spotlight (pets included!) so when you finish reading you feel like no stone has been left unturned and overall satisfied with all the information and situations the Collins had gone through.
Christmas spirit makes a few appearances here and there throughout the story but to be honest, it was kind of M.I.A for the most part of the narration but this didn't affect how enjoyable and British humor-filled the book was.
Christmas Rating: 1/5
My vote: 8/10
