📖 Novel of the Week: #fangirlproblems by Jennie Bennett

After Flower Boy Tour Guide by Shannon Kent, I'm once again reviewing a K-Pop themed book, this time taking place on US soil, to be specific in Houston, Texas.
Are we going to have a problem? You bet we are...and more than just one!

Talitha is the perfect example of a fangirl: she knows every song and every dance routine of her favorite boy band, X-O and of course she follows her favorite member, Chansol, on every social network. She went further and studied Korean by night and she's actually fairly fluent.
So she's over the moon when she finds out they'll be coming to Houston and since she won't attend their concert, she goes straight to the airport to at least have a glimpse of her idol...

Problem is, she has to compete with all other fangirls who gathered at the airport and when the moment finally arrives...Talitha gets knocked down by another girl and loses her chance.
On top of that, a colleague asks her to cover her shift, so after the scorching disappointment she has to go to work, but sometimes miracles happen and she finds her favorite guy right in front of her...and when he gives her his autographed photos she does what every normal fan would do. Start screaming and jumping? Nope, she starts...crying?!

Embarrassed at sky-high levels, she heads out the hotel and when Chansol follows here to check if she's ok, paparazzi appear all around the building and they have no other choice than to run away together and hide at Talitha's place.

What would you do if you had your idol all for yourself for 24 hours?

👍👎My Thoughts
Besides being extremely easy to understand which K-pop group (and which of its members) this book is inspired by, to be honest, that I'm not much of a fangirl, but I'd be lying if I say I didn't have some of their songs on my iPod. That being said...I started reading this book in one of those NO days and wasn't feeling quite well (you know, life problems and stuff!) and well, the simplicity and the humor of the story put me back in a good spirit!

You have to take it for what it is: a fangirl book, but it's not badly written and even if the finale is a bit absurd, it's overall hilarious and funny.
I didn't like how down Talitha was bringing herself with "I'm just a fan, I'm not worthy of him" and similar, but I guess it's due to her still being a teenager.

It took one day to finish it so if you want something that will erase problems from your mind for a few hours and you're at least a bit familiar with K-Pop and its fandom, go check this one out!

My vote: 6/10

BTW, here's the real guy the male protagonist is inspired to:
EXO's member Chan-yeol Park (박찬열)
