Tribute to Nelson Mandela

Image: Nelson MandelaI sadly heard about Mandela's death this morning. The great South African activist against apartheid died yesterday in Johannesburg after a long battle against lung infection. After 3 months in hospital in September he was sent home, where he received medical care as well as the love of his family and friends.

I hope everyone knows about Mandela's work and sacrifice for ending the Apartheid, so I'm not going to re-write all his life. I'm going to post some of his most famous quotes and movies/book instead, where you can find his eternal spirit .

Quotes

-"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world"
- "It always seems impossible until it's done"
- May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears"
-"I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it"

From the movie "Invictus" , my favourite quote :

"I was thinking how you spend 30 years in a tiny cell, and come out ready to forgive the ones who put you in there."

Related book and movies are:
Long walk to freedom; The autobiography of Nelson Mandela by Nelson Mandela
Sundowners by Lesley Lokko
- "Goodbye Bafana" (2007) by Bille August. With Joseph Fiennes, Dennis Haysbert and Diane Kruger
- "Invictus" (2009) by Clint Eastwood.  With Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon

Next year there will be in theatres the movie based on Mandela's autobiography starring Naomie Harris (as Winnie Mandela) and Idris Elba (as Nelson Mandela)

My prayers go to his beloved ones, remembering that he has done so much for the world and thanking him for that.
