Mia and Brooklyn find the whole situation creepy and can't wait to be over with it so they can finally join the party the have been invited to.
Hadley isn't that eager because she borrowed her boyfriend Ben's car...without him knowing.
Two things happen moments before they leave: they find that Josh Lane, who drove the car that killed Penny, was there as well. To add insult to injury, Ben decided to punish Hadley for taking his car by posting a compromising picture of her directly on Facebook!
She now can either go to the party, make Ben delete the picture, or get revenge by taking a little detour farther away from him and Oak Grove, Ohio.
👍👎My Thoughts
This book is based on the 'Sliding Doors'/crossroads theory where the protagonist faces a dilemma and there are two paths she can take and, obviously, the outcome is different depending on her choices.
The alternated storyline and the situations Handley & Co. have to go through were very engaging, I dare to say it is one of those unputdownable books, perfect to read during summertime.
It's so interesting to uncover untold truths along with the protagonists, every segment helps to formulate a hypothesis while involving the reader.
You'd think that mixing basically two stories with the same characters would make the narration messy and difficult to follow, but I found the author's writing style linear and clean so I immediately understood and remember what was going on whenever I started reading it the next day.
It deals with very serious and important topics and that's exactly why I was saddened and disturbed by the total absence of adult characters, whether they were parents, teachers and so on...
I get it, they were embarrassed and afraid of the consequences and it was 'fascinating' to read how they would resolve the whole situation, and yet it was discouraging their lack of faith in adults.
After all, it has been a pleasant read and I'll definitely read the other and future works of the author!

The covers showed at the top of this post are the English and Italian versions.
