🎬 Movie Review: Your Eyes Tell ( きみの瞳が問いかけている)

Shinozaki Rui works multiple manual jobs, doesn't talk that much and, as a result, is a bit of a
loner. One evening Rui is working at a parking garage when a young woman bursts in.
Mei Kaori is a lively girl who doesn't let her blindness affect her mood. She used to watch a drama with the previous man working at the garage and thanks to her bright character (and a rainy day) she befriends Rui as well.
Rui seems to walk on eggshells when he's with Kaori, but slowly he'll let his guard down and will let himself enjoy their relationship.
If on one side their relationship allows Rui to face his past and makes him want to make amends to the people he'd hurt, on the other going back to memory lane will uncover truths that are difficult to live with...

My Opinion👍👎
'Your Eyes Tell' is a remake of the 2011 Korean movie 'Always' and, having watched both of them, I can assure you they are almost identical even if I'd say the Korean version gives a darker vibe compared to the Japanese one

This story goes well beyond the simple romance between the two protagonists as it focuses mainly on how people deal with difficult past choices and an uncertain future in their own way, isolating themselves from society or facing it head high. It's also about the importance of forging ourselves, learning from our mistakes, and trying our best not to repeat them.

I also liked that the story takes place in Yokohama instead of good old Tokyo and you get a glimpse of the countryside as well when Rui visits the orphanage where he grew up.

Fun fact: the OST has the movie's same title and is performed by world-renowned kpop group BTS. If you like emotional yet uplifting ballads, then you should definitely listen to it...

It DOES NOT pass the Bechdel-Wallace test
1. There must be at least two women (and the names must be known)
2. The women have to talk to each other
3. The topic of conversation can be about anything except men
