📺 Korean Tv Series Review: Mystic Pop-Up Bar (쌍갑포차)

Weol-ju has spent the last 500 years settling people's unsolved grudges in order to make up for the great offense she caused when she was a 16 years old girl in the Joseon era; to do so, she has to reach the astronomic quote of 100,000 grudges!!
With only 10 grudges left to reach the quota, nowadays she runs a pop-up tent bar where people come to eat after work and complain about their lives...or at least, that's what Weol-ju hopes for, but people tend to be introvert and actually she isn't the patient type.
To help with the task (and the bar) she has Guinbanjang, a former Afterlife detective with a funny and positive personality.

During yet another disappointing night where costumers don't complain, a young and quiet clumsy boy comes in and, somehow, just by touching the other client the latter starts talking and so Weol-ju is able to set another grudge.

Han Kang-Bae didn't have an easy life because of his ability to make people tell what's in their minds just by touching them. That's why he lives alone, with just a handful of friends, avoiding human skinship at all costs!

Weol-ju sees an opportunity to quicken her grudge-searching task by using Kang-Bae's ability and, even if reluctant at first, he'll eventually accept after shes promises to fix his condition after she reaches her quota.
This is how this improbable trio formed and started to help people (and sometimes spirits) to be done with a wide range of problems, while also learning important lessons themselves.

My Opinion👍👎
"Mystic Pop-Up Bar" is yet another k-drama I'm sad has come to an end!
It was an instant catch, once I started the first episode I knew I'd keep on watching it!
Hwang Jung-Eum (Weol-ju) was also the lead in "She Was Pretty" but I didn't immediately recognize her, just to say how chameleonic she is...

The whole story revolves around the topic of solving people's regrets, unfinished businesses, and grudges and it was moving and heartwarming to see how far the trio was willing to go in order to help them...even if she claims she helps only to end her punishment, it's clear that Weol-ju takes these tasks at heart, showing tons of shades in her personality.
Her character resembles IU's Jang Man Weol in Hotel del Luna in the way she takes care of her loved one as well as nagging and losing her temper for nothing. Style-wise, she often wears Korean traditional hanbok, to enhance her connection with ancient times and I found it a winning idea!
This webtoon based fantasy drama has tons of insights into Korean folklore and mythology and I was in awe for its creativity starting with the hierarchy in the Afterlife to the Olympics held in other for ancestors to win the lottery number to help their descents.

It spreads encouraging messages of trust and friendship since the characters face quite some hardships (in between some of the funniest tragicomic situations) but they always find a way back to each other. Honestly, their camaraderie was one of the drama's highlights and one of the most beautiful I've ever watched in Dramaland.
Final thoughts: to me is a YES, SI, はい, JA, 예 and [add here the equivalent in any other language]! Even if I'm sad about its end, "Mystic Pop-Up Bar" was a fun and happy drama to watch, not at all obvious and, frankly, some of the regrets are so relatable.
