📺 Korean Tv Series Review: Taxi Driver (모범택시)

The story follows a group of employees of Rainbow taxi company, who secretly run a side "business": they get revenge on behalf of the victims of all types of crimes who request to be avenged of the ones who've hurt them.

We have Kim Do Ki, the taciturn, martial art trained taxi driver, who usually goes undercover in the place where the victim started to get physically/mentally abused by their perpetrators and almost always ends up discovering way more than what was on the surface (which is already awful).

The mechanic duo, formed by Mr. Choi and Mr.Park, is in charge of all the upgrades and general maintenance of the taxi used for their missions and playing down even the most serious situation.

Ahn Go Eun, the only female on the team, organizes every detail of the mission and, being a skilled hacker, she follows the team behind several computer screens in order to have their backs covered.

The mastermind behind the creation of this team is Rainbow taxi's owner Jang Sung Chul, who's also the chairman and spokesperson of Blue Bird Foundation, a no-profit organization helping the families of violent crimes' victims...which is how they get their mission, by asking to their 'clients' if they want to take revenge over the people who made their loved ones' lives miserable.

All team members went through some major tragic events in the past and that's why their bond goes beyond friendship and companionship: they lost faith in the justice system and so decided to make the criminal pay for what they did by themselves.
To do this, Sung-Chung formed a dangerous alliance with the unscrupulous loan shark Baek Sung-Mi, who rents him a place to segregate the criminals in order to isolate them from society and to somehow reeducate them.

Kang Ha-Na is a righteous and fierce prosecutor who starts investigating the disappearance of these criminals, wanting to punish them by the law even if she too thinks there's more than one flaw in the justice system.

My Opinion👍
Taxi Driver is one of the most terrifying k-dramas I've ever watched and to think that the reason why it's so overwhelming is that it focuses on modern society's critical problems like slavery, bullism, and harassment in one's workplace, gives me goosebumps.
During each episode I found myself holding my breath as I couldn't believe the viciousness of the villains, their pursuit of making their target's lives as miserable as possible, and the repercussions they have to go through if they try to rebel against them.

If you're easily impressionable, I honestly don't think you should watch this drama and I'm not exaggerating when I say it was tough to keep watching some scenes due to their repulsive, remorseless, and unbelievably cruel criminal...and here I thought Beyond Evil was going to be the harshest drama of the year.

I'm caught between being horrified because the topics treated are likely to happen daily and being amazed by how good the acting is, for me to feel this way.
Both the leading and supporting cast is superlative in portraying their characters, while the storyline is full of tension and scary situations that I thought it was going to be like 'Game of Thrones' where anyone could die, it doesn't matter if they're leading characters or not.

There are obviously some scenes and parallel stories that are uplifting and help break the overall seriousness of the main story, while the action scenes are so well choreographed I wanted to watch them on a loop...

The tension is kept high up until the very end and the way they ended it made absolute sense and in line with the entire story.
It wasn't always an easy watch, but I think this could be one of the best dramas of the year.
